Mr. Martien Kromwijk – Lifetime Ambassador
Mr. Martien Kromwijk has made a great contribution in the start up of The Borneo Initiative. Based on his broad experience and enthusiasm he was able to contract some of the important donors and supporters in the beginning. These initial contacts were the greatest importance for the Borneo Initiative.

Mr. Arthur Klassen Mr. Art Klassen was Director of Tropical Forest Foundation for the Asia Pacific Region. He was well known in Indonesia for the success story of Reduced Logging Module as part of responsible managed forest based on FSC standards. Mr. Klassen had a very strong motivation and high commitment for concessions under his facilitation in pursuing FSC standard. We have stated the importance of the role that Mr. Klassen took in the development of our initiative repeatedly. He advised The Borneo Initiative on its strategy and modus operandi. We celebrate the great importance of his work and the way he contributed to real change. Unfortunately Mr. Klassen passed away on 1 November 2018.

Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun
Former Director General ASEAN-Indonesia, Department of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Indonesia, Former Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia in The Netherlands. For his efforts in linking and introducing The Borneo Initiative to various key players in Indonesia.

Advisory board:

Mr. Untung Iskandar
As the President Director of PT Narkata Rimba and PT Belayan River Timber, Mr. Untung Iskandar had the courage and confidence to pursue FSC certification and he has received the FSC certificate for both his companies. In his concessions, Mr. Iskandar offers a training ground for testing Reduced Impact Logging (RIL) best practices. As a former DG in the Ministry of Forestry back in the 1990’s and as a former officer in ITTO he also provides awareness of the importance of certification amongst concessionaires in APHI organization. Mr. Iskandar is informal advisor to The Borneo Initiative.

Mr. Rahardjo Benyamin
Mr. Rahardjo Benyamin graduated with a degree in Forestry from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Mr. Benyamin has served as director in several logging companies in Indonesia for more than 40 years. Mr. Benyamin also served as commissioner, senior supervisor and advisor to some logging concession companies. Mr. Benyamin is a member of DKN (Indonesian forestry council presidium), Vice-Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Forest Graduates (PERSAKI) and Vice-Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Forest Concessionaires (APHI) from 2011 – 2016 and again from 2016 – 2021.




Dr. Boen Purnama
Dr. Boen Purnama graduated in 1977 as Bachelor in Forestry from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and completed with his Master degree (1986) and PhD in Resources Economics from Michigan State University (1990). For over 30 years Dr. Purnama has worked in the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, with his last position as Secretary General of Forestry. Dr. Purnama was also the President of the United Nations Forum on Forests  Bureau 8 (UNFF) from 2008 – 2009. Now, a senior lecturer at the Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) in Jakarta, Dr. Purnama is also an advisor to the Association of Indonesian Forest Concessionaires (APHI) and to several forest plantation companies as well to some ecosystem restoration companies.
